On August 23, 1939, Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin signed a nonaggression pact which stunned the world. Their pact stood strong until Hitler hit the USSR with a surprise attack on Stalingrad in 1942 which was a betrayal from Hitler. Adolf betrayed the USSR because of his desire of living space and his belief that the Soviet Union was a significant ideological enemy. Hitler was able to push 300 miles into the USSR and was close to winning until cold winter weather came and made it tough to continue. Hitlers army tried to refuse and retreat. While Hitlers men struggled, Stalin used the time to get his troops ready for the weather. He sent them out to push the unprepared Germans out of the USSR. Since the Germans were so unprepared, they were pushed out with ease and the Germans lost. During this time the USA and Japan were also at war with each other after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. But due to the idea of island hopping and the nuking of Hiroshima Japan surrendered too, and the allies faction won WWII.
